We are pleased to announce that the 2012 Tampa Bay Engineers Week Banquet will be Friday February 24 at the A La Carte Event Pavilion (4050 Dana Shores drive, Tampa, Florida, 33634). Please join us at this elegant gathering to celebrate the 62nd National Engineers Week and recognize the many contributions made to society by those in the engineering profession.
The evening will feature fine dining, our guest speaker Ms. Kathy Caldwell (2011 ASCE National Chair), and an exhibition room for vendors and attendee networking. We are expecting four hundred or more attendees including 250-300 engineers of all disciplines, allowing plenty of opportunities to meet with friends and colleagues.
In keeping with the spirit of the event, awards will be given to accomplished engineers in each engineering discipline, to outstanding young engineers in each discipline, and to local university students who excel in engineering related studies. We’ll also be honoring select local high school educators with the Lignell Award for their outstanding instruction in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
SWE has been given the opportunity to reserve a banquet table, which would offer our members and guests a $10 discount per seat. If you are interested in a SWE table at a price of $55/ticket, please contact Lara Bartholomew at LBartholomew@kingengineering.com or 813-880-8881. RSVP required by Wednesday, January 25.

A new tool for job seekers was launched at SWE National Conference last month.
QIZMA is a free resource for job seekers designed by job seekers. It provides tools that are designed around the needs and experiences of many of its employees. These tools can help you as you progress through your working life – from understanding your true passion and matching an appropriate career to that passion, to managing the tasks involved in finding a job that will get you started in that career, to determining and working toward the milestone you’ll need to reach along your road to success in your chosen career. Through all this, it helps you remember that there’s more to life than work.
A brochure is attached for additional information on QIZMA features.

Member and friends of SWE Tampa Bay Area save the date now and make plans to be part of Great American Teach-in!
The Hillsborough and Pinellas County Public Schools are looking for volunteers to teach one class or teach all day to give you a taste of teaching.
You don’t need teaching experience, just enthusiasm and a desire to share with students something about your career, your experiences, your hobby, or yourself. The schools want you to carry some key messages into our classrooms, including the importance of staying in school and the value of each individual student.
The Great American Teach-In is a perfect opportunity for parents, business leaders, and community members to let our students know we care about them. The idea is simple – join this event on November 17, 2011, and teach a class or two, whatever your schedule permits. Opportunities are available all day long.
